Why come to Turkey? FOOD

Fresh. Everywhere pop up farmers markets. Road side stands spilling over scents sights and tastes; fresh figs, home-cured olives, honey from the hives in the olive and fig orchards.

Below are three varieties of figs from the neighbor's orchard. We have started the fig season here on the Aegean. It's getting crazy 'round here...

Our mini-family went on a mini-macara (adventure) to Bodrum and on the way we stopped at one little roadside hodge-podged together joint...yum!

Gözleme is ball of dough rolled out until extremely thin. Toppings added to the center such as feta-like cheese and herbs or grated potatoes and a melted mozzarella like cheese- kaşar.

Folded together then baked over a wood fired dome into  melty, crusty yumminess.

Came with a side of summer tomatoes, olives with a drizzle of olive oil. To drink? Ayran which is yogurt watered down with salt..yes... BOMB!

More on our macara to come...xo
